Belmopan area

Yellow-winged Tanager (Thraupis abbas)

The 5 days I spent exploring the area around Belmopan were a bit disappointing, mostly due to the dull and damp weather conditions that were prevalent in the foothills during my stay.

The highlight was definitely the Black-and-white Owl that came and perched on the tree directly opposite the balcony of my room on two separate nights.

Black-and-white Owl (Ciccaba nigrolineata)

Unfortunately, the daylight hours were nowhere near as productive and it was a struggle finding anything worth photographing in the near-darkness of the forest floor during the dull and wet days.

Wood Thrush (Hylocichla mustelina)

Ochre-bellied Flycatcher (Mionectes oleagineus)

Tropical Pewee (Contopus cinereus)

I'm not sure which is worse, having to use an extremely high ISO to compensate for the extremely poor light of the forest floor, or having a horrible, pure white background due to the cloudy skies...neither are conducive to getting high quality photos!

White-necked Puffbird (Notharchus macrorhynchos)
