The European Adder is Britain's only venomous snake. They are found in a variety of habitats, especially moors, heaths and dunes, although it can also be found in bogs, open woodland, field edges, marshy meadows and even saltmarshes. They mainly prey on small mammals but also occasionally eat birds, lizards and frogs. An adult will take about 9 voles (or their equivalent) per year.
