Eastern Cottontail

Sylvilagus floridanus

Delaware, USA - July 2001

The Eastern Cottontail is the commonest and most widespread rabbit in North America, occurring throughout the eastern and mid-western states.

Delaware, USA - July 2001

They are prolific breeders, with some females breeding within the year of their birth, but this is balanced by a very high mortality rate through predation. It is the principle prey species for a number of mammalian and avian predators.
