Dusky Thorn occurs throughout most of England and Wales, reaching as far north as Yorkshire. If Ash Dieback takes hold in Britain, this is one species that will suffer, as Ash is the only known wild foodplant of the larvae. The larvae do feed on Privet in captivity, however, so this may turn out to be an alternative food source if Ash trees become scarce.
