Four-spotted Footman

Lithosia quadra

caterpillar - County Kerry, Republic of Ireland - July 2008

The resident populations of Four-spotted Footman are very locally distributed in southwestern England, Pembrokeshire in Wales and County Kerry in the Republic of Ireland, although the adults do occur as migrants elsewhere in Britain and Ireland.  The larva above was found resting on a foxglove plant and was probably close to entering pupation since early July is starting to get a bit late for Four-spotted Footman larvae.
