Knopper Gall - caused by Andricus quercuscalicus |
Marble Gall - caused by Andricus kollari |
Gall wasps of the family Cynipidae are mostly tiny insects whose presence is only generally made evident by their induction of gall formation in the plants in which the larvae are developing. When it reaches adulthood, the wasp chews its way out of the gall. The neat exit hole can clearly be seen in the marble gall above.
