Rose-Ringed Parakeet

Psittacula krameri

Nottinghamshire, England - April 2018

Rose-ringed Parakeets are also commonly known as Ring-necked Parakeets and are the only parrot species that has a widespread natural range in both Africa and Asia. It was introduced to Britain via the pet trade and established viable naturalised colonies in London area during the 1970's. By 2012 it was estimated that there were around 35,000 Rose-ringed Parakeets in Britain, still mostly in the London area but there were also colonies in Milton-Keynes, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool and the Edinburgh-Dundee area. The expansion in range has continued over the last 5 years and a small flock currently (2018) appears to be attempting to set up a colony in Nottingham.
