Tree Sparrows are generally common throughout their extensive range (Europe and Asia). It has been introduced to southeastern Australia, around the Melbourne area where it is generally uncommon but is slowly spreading to surrounding areas.
The sexes are identical in appearance, but juveniles can be differentiated by the yellow base to their bills and duller, more diffuse head markings.
