The Pachycephalidae formerly also included the Shrike-tits (Falcunculidae) and the Mohouas (Mohouidae) but with the publication of the Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World, vol.2 (del Hoya & Collar, 2016)) they have been separated from the Pachycephalidae and awarded family status in their own right.
