Eastern Ornate Flycatcher

Myiotriccus phoenicurus

Podocarpus National Park, Ecuador - December 2012

Eastern Ornate Flycatcher was formerly considered to be conspecific with M. ornatus. The main difference between the two species, apart from inhabiting separate ranges, are the uppertail colouration. Eastern Ornate Flycatcher has a uniformly orange uppertail while Western Ornate Flycatcher has black central tail retrices and duller orange, black-tipped outer tail feathers.
