Common Whitethroat is a migratory species which inhabits a variety of open scrub habitats. In summer it is common throughout most of Europe and Central Asia, its range extending as far east as the Altai and Tien Shen mountains of Eastern Kazakhstan.
After breeding is completed, it migrates south in the autumn and spends the winter in central and southern Africa.
