The Black-throated Finch has suffered a 59% decline in the last decade and numbers left in the wild may be as few as 1000 birds. Their future is further threatened by continued habitat destruction, a prime example being the proposed Carmichael mine which if it goes ahead will result in the clearing of 87km2 of prime Black-throated Finch habitat.
