Turkeys and grouse have traditionally been placed in their own families but due to recent advances in molecular systematics, research has indicated they are more closely related to the pheasants and partridges than previously thought and, in the checklist that is followed here (volume 1 of the "Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World" (del Hoyo & Collar, 2014)), they have all been lumped into the same family.
