With the publication of the Passerine volume of Birdlife International's "Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World" (del Hoya & Collar, 2016) there have been numerous changes to the taxonomy of the Tanager family. The most significant differences from the taxonomy followed in the print edition of the Handbook of the Birds of the World volume 16 are the reclassification of many species that were formerly included in the Emberizidae and Cardinalidae, such as the Saltators, Sierra-finches, Grassquits and Seedeaters.
