Tourmaline Sunangel is very closely related to Little Sunangel and the two are often regarded as being conspecific.
It can be found on the eastern Andean slopes of Columbia and northwest Ecuador where it is locally fairly common. At Guango Lodge it was the commonest hummingbird visiting the nectar feeders.
