Little Sunangel is very closely related to Tourmaline Sunangel and the two are often regarded as being conspecific.
Little Sunangel only occurs on the eastern Andean slope of southeastern Ecuador and northwestern Peru. It is generally uncommon but at Tapichalaca it is one of the commonest hummingbirds to frequent the nectar feeders surrounding the lodge.
