Silver Y is a common immigrant to the British Isles. It breeds abundantly during the summer months and although it can be seen on the wing in any month of the year, any individual seen in the winter is likely to have flown in from the continent as it is rare that the larvae can survive the winter. Adults can frequently be found feeding on ivy flowers in the autumn.
