With a wingspan of around 70mm, the Red Underwing is one of Britain's largest noctuids.
The bright red-and-black banded hindwing is not usually visible when the moth is at rest.
Red Underwing is common in central and southeastern England and is found in various wooded habitats. It is also found locally in southwestern England and west Wales.
