Both Copper Underwing and Svensson's Copper Underwing are fairly well distributed throughout England and Wales to as far north as Yorkshire.
They are very similar and despite several features being quoted as aids to identification in the major field guides, such as the extent of the copper colour on the underwing and the extent of white on the labial palps, studies have shown that these are not reliable and a degree of overlap occurs.
