The unique shape of the wings of the Angle Shades renders it unmistakable and it can often be found by day resting in the open.
It can be on the wing during any month of the year in Britain if the climatic conditions allow it, but it is most likely to be encountered between May and October with a peak between August and October due to immigrants from the continent supplementing the resident population.
The larvae have fairly catholic tastes and will eat a wide variety of woody and herbaceous plants resulting in the moth being found ubiquitously in practically every habitat available throughout most of the British Isles, including Orkney and Shetland.
