There are around 3000 species of Ctenuchidae in the world. They are a mostly tropical family with only a handful of species occuring in Europe. Although they superficially resemble the Burnet Moths (Zygaenidae), they are much more closely related to the Arctiidae and some taxonomists even regard them as a subfamily of the Tiger Moths.
