Psychodidae are almost always found in damp habitats, including the drains of bathroom sinks.
Their aquatic/semi-aquatic larvae feed on algae, fungi and bacteria and can play an important role in the purification of sewage in some areas of the world.
About 70 species of these small flies are found in the British Isle.
