Black-tailed Trainbearer is fairly common, but has a scattered distribution, from northeastern Columbia to southeastern Peru. It prefers open habitats and forest edges at altitudes between 2600m and 4000m and is often found in suburban gardens. The extremely long tail of the mature male makes up 18cm of its 26cm total length.
