The Mealy Amazon gets both its common and scientific names from the floury, whitish sheen to its plumage.
Although their numbers are dwindling due to deforestation, hunting pressure and the illegal pet trade, the Mealy Amazon can still be found in quite high densities in relatively undisturbed areas such as national parks.
