American Black Ducks have suffered a significant decline over the last Century, with the wintering population in Maryland decreasing by 75% between 1950 and 1980. The reasons for the decline are manifold, but are mainly linked to habitat destruction, pollution, hunting pressure and hybridisation with Mallards.
