The Field Grasshopper is widespread and common throughout most of mainland Britain. It inhabits short vegetation in dry, sunny habitats. In areas where the grass becomes long or shaded areas it is usually outnumbered by Meadow Grasshopper (C. parallelus).
It is differentiated from the even commoner Meadow Grasshopper by having sharply angled pronotal side-keels with wedge marks that do not reach the hind margin; a longer hind part of pronotum than the fore part and wings that extend beyond the knees.
