Redwing has a distinctly northern distribution with the majority of the population breeding in Fennoscandia and Russia. The current population is estimated to be around 16-21 million pairs and is thought to be generally quite stable.
In winter they migrate to western and southern Europe where they form large flocks, often in association with Fieldfares and other thrushes.
