Black-throated Divers breed in small numbers (about 200 pairs) in the north-west highlands of Scotland. Outside of the breeding season they are less restricted in their range and can turn up virtually anywhere around the coast although there are a few favoured sites where counts of 25-60 birds are not unusual.
