The Hawfinch is generally a very wary and shy denizen of mixed deciduous woodland, and is found throughout most of Europe.

Its massively powerful bill is capable of exerting a force of 50kg and is put to good use in breaking the hard seeds and buds that make up the majority of the Hawfinch's diet.
